Flux Studio: A Living Art Space

Red Hook is evolving into a vibrant local art hub, welcoming artists and craftsmen into the community. This art institution is designed with a focus on environmental efficiency, examining energy flow in art-related activities such as pottery, glassblowing and metalworking. Traditionally, a significant amount of heat generated during these art-making processes is wasted. To address this, the building incorporates three distinct enclosure types that capture and repurpose surplus heat. As a result these systems enable a continuous exchange between the interior and exterior environments.
